Jail Chief Superintendent RILL F SONON, Regional Director of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Regional Office VIII, has officially obtained the rank of Jail Chief Superintendent, the equivalent of a one‑star general in the country’s uniformed service structure. This milestone marks a significant advancement in his leadership within the Jail Bureau and reinforces BJMP’s commitment to professional excellence and service integrity.

Sonon was among the newly appointed BJMP officials who took their oath before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at Malacañang. Joining him in the ceremony were Jail Chief Superintendents ANDREW TAULI and JHON MONTERO, who likewise formalized their appointments before the President.

The event underscored the administration’s continued support for BJMP’s mandate of secure, humane, and reform‑oriented jail management nationwide. During the ceremony, BJMP Jail Director Efren Nemeño also presented President Marcos with a painting created by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs)—a symbolic testament to the bureau’s rehabilitation programs and the creative potential nurtured within jail facilities.

For Eastern Visayas, Sonon’s elevation to the rank of Jail Chief Superintendent strengthens BJMP RO‑VIII’s direction toward modernization, digital transformation, and enhanced welfare programs for both personnel and PDLs. His leadership has been marked by improved operational systems, stronger inter‑agency coordination, and sustained efforts to uplift jail conditions across the region.

With his new rank, JCSUPT Sonon is poised to further advance BJMP’s strategic initiatives—ensuring secure, progressive, and community‑aligned jail management for the people of Eastern Visayas.
